Business Unit Manager -- Multiple Locations

Our client is a tactical equipment manufacturer.

THE POSITION

Our client is seeking Business Unit Managers for their sites in the Northeast, Southwest, Southeast and Mid-South. The selected candidates will have full P&L and operational oversight for an assigned value stream within the factory. Business Unit Managers will lead all facets of manufacturing including staffing, quality, maintenance, process development, materials, capital equipment and tooling. These roles will have direct supervisory responsibilities for Group Leaders, Manufacturing Engineers and other support functions within the value stream, as well as strong dotted lines to supply chain, product design and finance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • General management of all business facets including production, manufacturing engineering, maintenance, toolmaking, customer service, repair, materials, quality, etc.
  • Report daily value stream metrics (Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost) and explain abnormalities and drive corrective actions.
  • Assure daily production management to meet the production schedule and assure quality standards are met continuously.
  • Assure fair and equal enforcement of company policies, as well as safety rules and guidelines set forth. This includes verbal coaching, initiating corrective action discussions and creating/following through on specific performance improvement plans.
  • Drive Quality into the process, and mentor good process quality thinking and ensure constant continuous improvement.
  • Ensure Group Leaders are fulfilling their appropriate daily management tasks, such as Concerns, Countermeasures and Corrective Actions (CCCA) meetings, maintaining cell board metrics, etc.
  • Champion Kaizen efforts, identify waste and systemically eliminate and continue to relentlessly work toward a pure value stream.
  • Create an environment where Team Leaders create and observe continuous standard work, and stop the process when abnormalities occur with action from a support team.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration, operations management or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing engineering, Lean and operational leadership experience in a fast-paced, CNC manufacturing environment with integrated assembly.
  • Deep knowledge of and hands-on experience implementing TPS-based business systems with a strong grasp of the Lean tools and concepts including visual floor management, standard work, Kaizen, Hoshin, SMED, 5S, value stream mapping, flow systems, etc.
  • Proven leader, coach and mentor.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to present ideas across all levels of the organization.
  • Self-starter who is well-organized, detail-oriented and possesses excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong time management skills; must be able to handle multiple projects and important issues at one time.
