COO -- Northeast

THE COMPANY

Our client is a family-owned windows and doors manufacturer.

THE POSITION

The Chief Operating Officer will assume full, day-to-day ownership of Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Materials, Procurement, Scheduling, Shipping and Fleet Logistics. They will be responsible for designing and imbedding the Performance System, raising Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost to world-class levels while freeing the CEO to focus on growth strategy and selective M&A. Success will be reflected in disciplined KPI attainment, scalable processes and steady progress toward the revenue goal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create a five-year Hoshin plan that turns the growth ambition into a cascading KPI tree, tiered daily management and structured problem solving, aligning every level of the organization to a common direction.
  • Codify Core Tenets, standard work, Gemba leadership and visual management so that continuous improvement becomes associate driven and self-sustaining.
  • Lift safety, first-pass yield and on-time-in-full performance by removing chronic constraints in high-mix, make-to-order lines, optimizing plant layout and using real-time data to improve OEE, labor productivity and scrap reduction.
  • Build a demand-driven planning model that synchronizes extrusion, insulated-glass fabrication and assembly, maintains right-sized inventory and employs supplier scorecards to support rapid product refresh and coastal-code compliance.
  • Deploy line-side dashboards, MES connectivity and mobile Gemba applications that provide immediate visibility to downtime, quality escapes and takt adherence.
  • Coach two direct reports, the VP of Operations and the Director of Supply Chain, and through them build capability; set clear expectations; provide direct feedback; and strengthen frontline engagement through Kaizen events and cross-training pathways.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least 15 years in vertically integrated, high-mix manufacturing that includes full P&L or multi-plant leadership of businesses of $100 million or more.
  • A record of designing and sustaining an enterprise-wide Lean operating system with measurable gains in safety, quality, delivery and cost.
  • Demonstrated success scaling plants, production lines or greenfield sites during periods of rapid revenue growth and governing multi-million-dollar capital programs with financial discipline.
  • Deep expertise in supply-chain optimization, SIOP, logistics and working-capital management, reinforced by strong financial acumen.
  • A high-execution people leader who sets clear standards, communicates with calm confidence and energizes teams in a fast-growth, family-owned environment.
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations management or a related field is required. An advanced degree or Six Sigma Black Belt is preferred.
