Director of Manufacturing Operations

THE POSITION
The Director of Manufacturing Operations will be responsible for all aspects of production, environmental, health & safety (EH&S), manufacturing engineering, production control & planning, and facilities management, partnering with a cross-functional team including quality, supply chain, logistics, and engineering. This individual will be at the helm of a high-impact operation, driving strategic growth, and operational excellence in contract performance toward ensuring customer expectations are exceeded and financial objectives achieved in alignment with the strategic plan.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Allocate and manage resources (manpower, equipment, materials) to optimize output with respect to delivery, quality, and cost.
- Responsible for all aspects of the manufacturing floor and overall facilities management.
- Advocate, lead, and teach in-terms of promoting Lean principles and Kaizen efforts.
- Collect and analyze data to identify areas of waste or inefficiency; use data to optimize productivity, innovation, and supply management.
- Lead teams in achieving goals in safety, quality, delivery, inventory and productivity value stream daily goals lead integrated daily management boards / KPIs.
- Manage shifts by effectively utilizing supervisors and their resources.
- Coordinate activities of various departments and / or shifts to ensure all areas are working and aligned on appropriate tasks.
- Develop strategic operating, capital, and other plans to improve effectiveness of operation.
- Work with team to develop and implement materials management strategies (e.g., make / buy, Kanban, MRP, inventory levels).
- Maintain effective working relationships and communication with all departments; builds strong collaborative relationships with cross-functional departments.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Fifteen-plus years of progressive manufacturing leadership.
- Experience in highly precision engineered large machinery manufacturing environments involving metal fabrication, welding, and machining.
- Demonstrated impact establishing Lean/TPS systems/culture.
- P&L management and large operational budget oversight.
- Hands-on experience in cost estimating and project management.
- Union environment experience (leading collective bargaining agreement negotiations etc.).
