Plant Manager -- Midwest

THE COMPANY

Our client’s a refractory products designer and manufacturer.

THE POSITION

The Plant Manager will be responsible for production, materials, quality and manufacturing engineering, ensuring compliance with all applicable Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) regulations and corporate safety standards. The selected candidate will foster a strong safety culture and continuous improvement mindset across the workforce through effective resource utilization, process optimization and employee engagement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and propose annual business plans for a given area or department, ensuring alignment with strategy. Recommend financial and headcount budgets; propose business targets, revenues or other key performance indicators (KPIs); and schedule key activities / projects, ensuring integration with other elements of the organization.
  • Identify and communicate the actions required to implement the function's strategy and business plan within the business area or department. Explain how these actions align with the broader organization's mission, vision and values. Motivate people to commit to these tenets and take extraordinary steps to achieve local business goals.
  • Monitor and review performance against health, safety and environment (HSE) key performance indicators (KPIs) and patterns of behavior within the area of responsibility. Take action to improve performance and to resolve noncompliance with the organization's HSE policies, procedures and mandatory instructions.
  • Develop monthly and annual production plans for multiple factories across the business, with dependencies on other processes/units, to include resource planning, monitoring and reporting on performance against the plan. Provide input to the overall production planning framework and systems.
  • Initiate, formulate and implement new manufacturing methods and processes while managing the development and/or delivery of a significant element of the company's manufacturing process improvement program.
  • Manage budget plans for a department. It may involve development, delivery or both.
  • Manage and report on performance within the department or area of responsibility; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and hold individuals accountable for achieving them; and take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of annual business objectives.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ten-plus years of manufacturing experience with at least five years in a leadership role influencing strategy.
  • Background in steel, metallurgy, industrial end markets, chemicals or process industries.
  • Experience leading a brownfield transformation.
  • Results-driven problem solver and opportunist with a proven track record of successfully applying Lean and CI tools and principles.
  • Ability to lead, empower and influence cross-functional teams while setting high standards.
  • Union experience that includes labor disputes and negotiating contracts.
  • Strong communication skills, accountability and ownership.
