Vice President, Operations -- Midwest

THE COMPANY

Our client is a family-owned commercial tile floor installer.

THE POSITION

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Vice President of Operations will be a key member of the leadership team, responsible for driving scalable growth and leading its Lean transformation. This role is accountable for optimizing field service operations and manufacturing, building strong teams, instilling accountability and elevating performance across the business.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive efficiency, quality and profitability across field service and manufacturing operations. Establish and implement systems that enable high performance and scalability.
  • Recruit, coach and retain high-performing teams. Implement cross-training and standardized work practices to build bench strength and internal mobility.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives rooted in Lean manufacturing principles. Streamline processes, eliminate waste and embed problem-solving into daily operations.
  • Develop and track KPIs related to productivity, quality, labor efficiency and customer satisfaction. Optimize workflows through time studies, process mapping and layout improvements.
  • Own project and departmental budgets. Manage key cost drivers, support accurate forecasting and ensure profitability across operations.
  • Build and enforce systems that ensure consistent, measurable quality with a “zero punch list” mindset.
  • Reinforce the organizational commitment to meeting deadlines without exceptions. Plan and execute operations accordingly.
  • Align operations with company goals. Understand product mix and develop systems that flex with demand while maintaining throughput and quality.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ten-plus years of progressive operational leadership experience in field service, construction, manufacturing or related industries—ideally within a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
  • Proven track record of leading large teams (both field and in-house) with a focus on execution, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Deep understanding of Lean principles, process optimization and systems implementation in a labor-intensive operation.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience managing budgets, job costing and driving profitability through operational efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to build scalable systems and processes in support of growth and operational excellence.
